Frequently Asked Questions |
|
So who goes to these things? SDRIW's membership consists of local companies, law enforcement, educational and individual computer professionals who wish to gain and share knowledge in all areas of Information Security. Are there dues, membership restrictions or paperwork? Absolutely not! There are no requirements to join. These are community events organized by volounteers and are open to anyone who is interested. How do you compare to ISSA, ISACA, HTCIA and other security groups? Our focus is local happenings with a chance to network and learn. We do not compete with these groups and welcome their attendance. We have a more generalized approach and try to present information that applies to all sectors of the security community. Attendance by these groups at our meetings allows them to share their specialized interests and knowledge to the entire security community. Are your presentations just vendor pitches? No. We ask all presentors to be as vendor nuetral as possible. Is your group for novices or experts? Both. All discussions are open to questions from any one that has them. Due to the large membership from the professional community, we usually don't focus the presentations towards the novice but we do encourage an educational atmosphere that assists beginners in learning and understanding what is presented. Do you accept donations? Donations are tax-deductible and go towards flying in speakers, having local mini-conventions and towards anything that improves the local Information Security community. But what if I still have more questions? Contact us at sdriw@sdriw.org. We will be happy to answer them! |
